Bike Box Volunteer:FosterBike Box Rules
Bike Box InfoThe bike box is the Velo Safe II Pro-Series from Tri All 3 SportsThe cases require you to take off your wheels, seat, pedals, and either loosen and roll your handlebars or take them out all together). Tools are NOT included with the cases -- so be prepared to have a headset wrench and a pedal wrench along with your basic Allen wrenches. You will also need the plastic skewer things to put between the front and back forks. Your bike, shoes, helmet, wetsuit, water bottles, and few other items MAY also fit (depending on your bike size), but watch out for airline weight limits. If you get bike box and still have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Or, make arrangements in advance with your favorite bike shop. Reminder: Be sure that the case isn't too heavy or they will ding you at the airport for being over the weight limit ($$$$$). Bikes on AirplanesAll airlines charge a fee to take your bike -- the fee averages about $80, EACH WAY. This is a revenue generator for the airlines. Rental Car note: You may want to rent a slightly larger car to accomidate the bike box. The case should fit into the backseat of a 4-door car. Compact 2-doors generally won't work.Shipping the Bike CaseIf you do ship your bike in this box, please consider how long it will take and that someone is potentially waiting for the box for the next weekend. During the season, the cases are generally fully booked. If a bike case does not arrive back in time for the next reservation it will cause a lot of stress for the athlete and for the bike case coordinator.Reserving the Bike BoxCheck the BTC calendar to see if the case is available for the time you want.
