Group Bike Workouts

Why ride with others? Their wheels just get in the way, and besides, drafting is not legal in most triathlons. Triathlons are for solo artists - it's not a "team" sport. Got to toughen up and train alone. We've heard all the excuses - most of them are poor.

Whether you're facing chilly, motononous base miles in mid-winter, or a long, challenging climb over a mountain pass in late summer, having a companion or two to chat with can make it all pass more easily and safely. Feel you need a road I.D. and a rear view mirror? A coach to inspire or motivate you? How about a friend instead?

Unless you're on a top-secret training plan or are attempting the hour record, there's really no good excuse for heading out alone.

Whatcom County has an abundance of regular group rides offered throughout the year for a variety of speed and skill levels. You can do long, race-simulation-type workouts on the weekend, or quick beginner's ride on a weeknight.

We will add one of our own club rides soon. In the meantime, please visit the website of one of the area's bicycle-specific clubs for a comprehensive list of the institutional rides (and even some of the wanna-bes) leaving from Bellingham and surrounding communities.
